In Memoriam: David Forkenbrock | ||||||
|
David Forkenbrock was born in Thief River Falls, MN in 1943 and passed away at the age of 65 on January 11, 2008.
David was a nationally recognized transportation researcher and prominent faculty member at the University of Iowa for over 30 years. He was founding director of the Public Policy Institute at the University. He was also a founding member of the TRB Committee on Transportation and Economic Development, and he served on the committee for 18 years (from 1984-2002). This included serving as committee chair from 1988 to 1995. His contributions to the committee include organizing workshops and presiding over numerous paper and conference sessions. David also served on several other TRB committees, including Transportation Planning for Small and Medium-Sized Communities, Public Transportation Planning, Taxation and Finance, and Transportation Economics (where he also served as Chair). He was also active in the TRB Technical Activities Division. His humor and insight touched the lives of many people. David made a series of significant contributions to the understanding of transportation through his ground-breaking articles, papers and research efforts.
